Since the time immemorial, provision of healthcare has been of prime importance for mankind. With the development of civilization, it has evolved into various branches which are now known as specialities. Cardiology is one of the major fields of any health care system. Department of Cardiology not only caters to health services for the community pertaining issues related to one of the most essential organ of the body i.e, the heart but is also a source of learning and training for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
Department of Cardiology of Gulab Devi Teaching Hospital consists of One unit. This unit is headed by a Professor who is assisted by competent faculty. Department is actively engaged in post graduate medical education for the last many years. Currently Department of Cardiology is offering training for
FCPS/MD/Dip.Cardiology training programs.
Examining body is College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) for FCPS & University of Health Sciences (UHS) for Diploma in Cardiology and MD Cardiology. Being part of major tertiary care hospital, Department of Cardiology Provides 24/7 indoor and emergency medical services along with out patient cover on six working days. Our departments are divided into invasive and non-invasive modalities.
Invasion modalities includes Cath Lab which are fully equipped with IVUS, ROTA ablators, FFR, Injector, Aortic balloon pump. Procedures done in the CATH lab inclide coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty(both primary and elective), PBMC(Percutaneous Balloon mitral Commissurotomy) and aortic balloon valvotomy, pulmonary valvuloplasties peripheral angioplasty and peripheral angiography. PDA and ASD Device Closure, Permanent and Temporary pacemaker insertion Non-invasive modalities include TEE, DSE, ECHO, ETT, Holter monoitoring. On duty doctors are supervised by Senior registrar with consultant cover provided 24/7 with the Assistant, Associate Professors as well as Head of department reachable on call with regards to any problems arising in the hospital. Dedicated staff has provided round the clock health cover for any crisis like situation.
Department of Cardiology Is aware of its social responsibility, In this regard, community awareness programs are conducted in form of walks and seminars regarding health issues like Diabetes, Myocardial Infarction and its associated factors, Rheumatic Heart disease, Angina and Hypertension.
Faculty and trainees are involved in number of research projects. It helps to promote the culture of seeking and improving knowledge.
